We’re delighted to welcome Eddie Gripper back to St Mary’s. Last year, Eddie performed as guest pianist with the Jack Pearce Quintet – if you were lucky enough to attend that concert, you’ll already appreciate what a virtuouso eddie is!
This June, Eddie joins us with his own jazz band. Touring to support their new Album – Americana – the band will perform original material written after an eye-opening tour of the United States in 2022.
The album is, in fact, a personal account of Eddie’s six-week journey: living in motels, camping on roadsides, and catching lifts with people of every background imaginable. It’s a reflection on the American spirit – the warmth, optimism, and generosity of its people – but also a glimpse into a more fractured reality where drugs, homelessness, and poverty are ever-present. The pieces on this album capture snapshots of that experience: a broad yet honest reflection of Eddie’s time in America.
