This year, Pint of Science is staging an event at St Mary’s Church for the first time. Pint of Science is part of a national programme of science engagement happening all over the country over the same few nights – its ‘Tech Me Out’ theme will be supported by experts from Lancaster University talking about their current research and innovations.
These will include the School of Engineering’s Dr Samet Şahin speaking about his work with diabetes detection, Dr Lynne Blair from the School of Psychology who is conducting research into auditory technology for deaf children and Professor Joe Finney from the School of Computing and Communications with the micro:bit. There are an estimated 11 million micro:bits in the world which have supported the education of around 63 million young people globally.
Tickets are £5 each and can be purchased from www.pintofscience.co.uk from 13thApril – select “Lancaster” as the location to find the event. All £5 goes to Pint of Science to manage the programme; no funds come to St Mary’s Church or Lancaster University. Tickets can be purchased on the night with cash, on the door, if there is excess capacity.
