SUMMARY:Wuthering Heights Day
DESCRIPTION:WUTHERING HEIGHTS DAY 2025 \nThis is how they did it in Folkestone https://youtu.be/sAQ7XN8vZ6s?si=A8N7t_u6gQpAsaMh \n  \n Dig out something red to wear\, get ready to channel your inner Cathy or Kate and join us at the Glebe for our first ever Wuthering Heights Day here in Kirkby Lonsdale on Sunday July 27th at 11.00 a.m. \nSince 2013\, when the first ever Wuthering Heights Day took place in Brighton\, thousands of “Cathys” have joined together to celebrate\, have fun and dance to Kate Bush’s song “Wuthering Heights” Since then\, events have taken place every year across the globe from Australia to the USA and over 70 countries in between and now it’s HERE in Kirkby Lonsdale! \nThis is a family friendly event and it’s for everyone – old and young\, children\, women\, men – and you don’t have to be a great athlete or dancer – the only requirements are that you wear something red and come along prepared to join in the fun and try your hand at learning the moves to the song. \nThis is a FREE event NO NEED TO BOOK JUST TURN UP IN YOUR BEST RED OUTFIT \nFor your safety we have a few rules for the event: \n\nSorry\, no dogs except assistance\nPlease feel free to bring your own refreshments/picnics but act responsibly for the welfare and safety of all attendees.\nIn the unlikely event of severe weather that poses a safety risk we may have to move the event indoors. However\, please check the forecast and come prepared for the event of rain as\, if at all possible\, we intend to hold the event outdoors.\n\nPlease note that we will be photographing and videoing the event to promote our future events. If you do not wish to be photographed\, that’s not a problem – just inform one of our stewards when you arrive and you’ll be directed to a part of the Glebe where photography will not be allowed. \nSo\, get ready to head to the Glebe near St Mary’s Church where we’ll learn the moves and perform the dance to Kate Bush’s song against the atmospheric backdrop of our local fells. We hope that Emily Bronte would approve! \nSee you there.

SUMMARY:Pride & Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:This summer we welcome Illyria once again to our unique outdoor venue with their wonderful and witty alfresco production of Pride & Prejudice.\nAdapted by Oliver Gray from Jane Austen’s novel\, Pride & Prejudice is the original – and best – romcom. Independent-minded Lizzy finds disdainful Mr Darcy detestable! Or does she…? Can she see beyond his pride – and could he overcome her prejudice – to consider a possible future together? Hi-jinks ensue.\n \n\nWith her tongue firmly in her cheek\, Jane Austen tells us “It is a truth universally acknowledged\, that a single man in possession of a good fortune\, must be in want of a wife.” Mrs Bennet certainly thinks so. So when Mr Bingley – single\, young\, handsome\, and with £5000 a year – moves into nearby Netherfield Park\, she devotes all her energy to contriving for Jane\, the eldest of her five daughters\, to meet him during rural Hertfordshire’s whirlwind of social balls. But even Mrs Bennet draws the line at Mr Bingley’s disdainful friend Mr Darcy despite his whopping £10\,000 a year. Thank heavens Lizzy\, her second daughter\, finds him detestable too! Or does she…? Can she see beyond his pride – and could he overcome her prejudice – to consider a possible future together?\n\n \nAward-winning theatre company Illyria returns to celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th birthday in sparkling style.\nIf you joined us last year for Illyria’s production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet\, you’ll appreciate just how special these open-air shows are. We’re particularly blessed here at St Mary’s as our Glebe performance space not only offers a quiet and sheltered spot for picnic and a show but also provides an unparalleled vantage point from which to admire Ruskin’s View.\n \n***The show starts at 6PM but gates open at 5PM for picnicking – it’s the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday\, as afternoon melts into evening and you wander home in the fading light.***\n \nBring a folding chair or blanket as well as a picnic – and please dress for the weather. Last year we had a lovely sunny evening so suncream\, sun hats and insect repellent were the order of the day\, but you might need a fleece and a cagoule!\n \nTickets are limited and last year people travelled from a distance to see Illyria’s performance. This year\, Keswick\, Keighley and Brampton are the next nearest locations to us\, so we’re anticipating high demand. Please book soon so we can organise stewarding\n \n RESERVATIONS

SUMMARY:Romeo and Juliet at the Glebe
DESCRIPTION:Two wealthy families\, the Montagues and the Capulets\, are at war. Their feud has been long and bitter. But when Romeo\, Montague’s son\, gatecrashes Capulet’s party in disguise\, everything changes. There he meets Juliet\, Capulet’s daughter\, and the pair fall into an intense\, forbidden love that sets in motion a chain of events leading to a devastating conclusion. \nFrom a secret rendezvous in a moonlit garden to a fateful duel under the scorching Verona sun\, Shakespeare masterfully explores the enduring power of love\, revenge and fate in one of his best-loved stories. But the surprising thing about this iconic tragedy is that it’s extremely funny too! \nPerformed by Illyria in the great outdoors\, this fast-paced\, polished\, beautifully spoken production has been created using only the First Folio text\, the most authoritative edition of Shakespeare’s plays. Illyria first performed this terrific play more than two decades ago to critical acclaim worldwide. This summer it returns for a third time: passionate\, poetic\, and utterly gripping! \nRunning time (approx): 2hrs 20min (inc 20–minute interval)Please click the link to see our explanation of suitability for all ages.
